The healthcare industry continues to be a sector with enormous potential, boasting a market size exceeding USD 11 trillion, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.96% throughout the forecast period until 2030. To aid this massive growth, AI can produce significant applications within the healthcare sector; research and data collection, patient care analysis, faster interpretation of symptoms, and tailoring the customer experience are only a few examples.


ENSURING A PRECISE DIAGNOSIS

Governments around the world are increasingly seeing the potential of AI in healthcare. For example, back in March 2019, South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT introduced “Dr. Answer,” an AI-based medical advice service aimed at improving diagnostic accuracy. Fast forward to 2024, Dr. Answer 2.0 was showcased at the HIMSS European Health Conference & Exhibition, now involving 30 hospitals and 19 IT companies, marking a big step forward in AI-driven healthcare solutions. In terms of diagnoses, AI has shown remarkable precision. For example, research published by the US National Institutes of Health reports a 95.9% accuracy rate in diagnosing esophageal cancer and a 94.57% accuracy rate for lung cancer.


IMPROVING RESIDENTIAL HEALTHCARE

AI can offer numerous benefits for residential healthcare by swiftly processing vast amounts of information from diverse sources, enabling more tailored and effective patient care. Additionally, AI-enabled software can help minimize the risk of medication errors while simultaneously optimizing patient care plans. Currently, many wearable or mobile devices are equipped with features monitoring the wearer's heart rate and glucose levels. The data collected by these devices enhances the accuracy of diagnoses and aids in risk prevention, allowing AI models to make more informed decisions. Besides, AI algorithms can efficiently optimize not only the care patients receive but also the caregivers' schedules. By analyzing patient needs and geographical location, AI significantly increases efficiency within home care agencies.


Ultimately, the potential applications of AI in healthcare are vast, especially when viewed through an innovative lens. Its ability to rapidly interpret and collect data significantly lightens the load on healthcare professionals. While AI comes with both advantages and challenges, its benefits are driving continued development and increasing investment in new application opportunities.
